June 2026Tamahere Community Forum

Community safety, infrastructure improvements and future planning featured strongly at the June meeting of the Tamahere Community Committee.

King's Service Medal for Jane Manson

Members congratulated long-serving committee member Jane Manson on receiving a King's Service Medal in the King's Birthday Honours, recognising more than two decades of service to Tamahere through community initiatives including the Tamahere Market, local heritage projects and church involvement.

Local Projects & Community Safety

Several local projects were reviewed, including progress on the new Tamahere Park toilet block, CCTV upgrades and repairs to vandalised fencing around the park's water reservoir. Committee members expressed concern over the proposed cost of fencing upgrades and called for practical, cost-effective solutions.

The committee also welcomed the successful launch of the new Tamahere Forum website, which is now operational and providing residents with a two-way communication platform for community news, projects and consultation.

Roading & Transport

Roading and transport issues continue to be a major focus. Updated plans for the Tamahere Drive upgrade have now been published, while concerns were raised about NZTA's Southern Links proposal and the lack of local road connections for Tamahere and Matangi.

Committee members also discussed the need for improved planning around future traffic growth, particularly at the Tamahere Interchange and Narrows Bridge, and agreed to invite NZTA representatives to the upcoming community open day.

Updated Tamahere Drive upgrade plans have been published - construction targeted for early 2027.

Southern Links proposal lacks local road connections for Tamahere and Matangi - TCC raised strong concerns.

Future traffic growth at the Tamahere Interchange and Narrows Bridge flagged as a planning priority.

NZTA representatives invited to attend the Vision Tamahere 2075 Open Day on 14 June.
