New Tamahere/Tauwhare Bus Service Launched

BUSIT is thrilled to announce the launch of a new bus service, aimed at enhancing connectivity within the community. The 28 Tamahere/Matangi service, commenced operations on February 12, 2024, bridging the distance between the University of Waikato and the broader Hamilton area, offering seamless travel options for residents.

This innovative service will alternate routes between The 28: University - Tamahere/Matangi – University and the 27: University - Tauwhare Pā – University.

BUSIT says the service caters to the diverse mobility needs of the community and will be operated with a fleet of smaller sprinter buses, equipped with 12 seats or 10 to accommodate a wheelchair or mobility scooter, ensuring a comfortable and accessible journey for all passengers.

The 28. Tamahere/Matangi route is not just a means of transportation; it is a gateway to the rest of Hamilton, with connections to several BUSIT services at key locations:

  • University of Waikato, Gate 1: Access services like the 13 University, 17 Hamilton Gardens Uni.

  • Knighton Road/Clyde Street: Connect with the Orbiter for high-frequency travel around Hamilton, and the Meteor for routes from West to East.

  • Cambridge Road: Offers routes including the 10 Hillcrest, 20 Cambridge, and the 22 Eastern Connector, facilitating travel to Morrinsville, Matamata, Paeroa, and Te Aroha.

This trial service, launched in partnership with Waikato District Council, supports BUSIT's commitment to developing sustainable, efficient, and inclusive transportation solutions for our communities.

Fares and Travel Zones

Understanding the fare system is easy with BUSIT. For the best fares, passengers are encouraged to use the Bee Card, which offers considerable savings and convenience. SuperGold card holders can also benefit from free transport once they have applied for their concession.
