Tamahere Park Unveils New 'Cottage-Look' Toilets in Community-Council Venture

Tamahere Village is now home to a unique and much-anticipated community facility; newly opened toilets at Tamahere Village, unveiled just in time for the holiday season.

These aren't just any ordinary public toilets; they are the first in a series of charming 'cottage-look' restrooms, marking a significant shift in public utility provision in the Waikato district.

The project, a collaborative effort between the community and the council, saw its official opening graced by Mayor Jacqui Church, Councilors Crystal Beavis, Eugene Patteson and Tilly Turner, and Tamahere Community Committee Chair Charles Fletcher.

These toilets stand out due to their origin being the first from a new production line at Ngaruawahia-based, Modern Building Solutions. The company, in a national first, won the tender to supply public toilets across the Waikato district, breaking the long-standing duopoly in public toilet provision in New Zealand.

Te Kowhai-based Clear Property & Projects undertook the site works, contributing to this modular, transportable, and affordable solution. This initiative represents a significant breakthrough for the Waikato District Council, offering a practical and cost-effective alternative in public utility management.

The Tamahere Community Committee, led by Charles Fletcher, played a pivotal role in this achievement, highlighting the power of community-led initiatives supported by local governance.
