Waikato Business Woman Anne Cao-Oulton Stands For WEL Energy Trust

Local business woman and dual member of the Tamahere and Matangi Community Committees, Anne Cao-Oulton, is standing as an independent candidate for the WEL Energy Trust, positioning community support and long-term regional investment at the centre of her campaign.

The Waikato-based Trust oversees a significant community investment portfolio linked to WEL Networks and plays a key role in distributing benefits back to electricity consumers across the region. Voting is now open for the current election.

Campaign Platform

Anne Cao-Oulton says she supports retaining the Trust's long-standing customer discount scheme while also expanding the organisation's role in supporting local initiatives and families facing financial pressure.

"I believe strong communities are built through opportunity, support, and smart investment. In challenging economic times, local families and community organisations need practical support delivering real outcomes."

Background & Experience

Anne Cao-Oulton brings more than two decades of experience across business, media, governance, community leadership, and professional sport. A former journalist and professional basketball player, she says those experiences helped shape a practical and people-focused leadership style.

"As founder and organiser of the Waikato Cherry Blossom Festival, I have worked to bring people together, celebrate diversity, and create opportunities strengthening social and economic connection across the Waikato," she says.

Vision for the Trust

She believes the WEL Energy Trust should continue backing initiatives strengthening local organisations and help future generations succeed.

"The Trust should continue investing in initiatives supporting local families, empowering community organisations, and helping future generations thrive," says Anne.
